The Benefits of Water

The human body, which is made up of between 55 and 75 percent water (lean people have more water in their bodies because muscle holds more water than fat), is in need of constant water replenishment.

Water is an essential part of everyday life for a person. Water makes up to 60% of a human's body, and without replenishment, many bodily ailments can occur:
  • Excessive thirst
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Little or no urination
  • Muscle weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Lightheadedness
Dehydration is a big issue in a lot of people, and this occurs when the body does not get enough water. Losing even 1-2% of your bodily water can result in dehydration.

There are many things that affect water levels in the body. Among them are exercise, your environment (weather), and health conditions (or illnesses).

There are also ways to replenish your water supply if you are feeling dehydrated. Drinking enough water every day is essential, and the easiest way to replenish. Making sure you drink eight 8-oz glasses of water a day is the recommendation for daily water intake. Fruits and vegetables also contribute to your water replenishment, but it is important to focus on drinking water first.

Thirst is usually a good indicator of gauging thirst, however people that have diabetes need to be very aware of their water intake. Drinking a glass of water with each meal is a good way to remind yourself to drink. Drinking water has also been rumored to aid in weight loss. By drinking your 8-8 oz a day, water can keep you fuller longer, prolonging snacking and overeating, as well as helping your body flush out any bloat.
